Domestic violence counseling program

PROGRAM DURATION:

The domestic counseling program lasts 16-24 weeks.

 PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY:

The program is based on cognitive, behavioral, and dialectical behavioral strategies meant to help clients gain awareness of their own underlying issues.  Psycho-education is used to help people understand patterns, learn emotional regulation skills,  and increase distress tolerance. The program also assesses potential comorbidity issues that are impacting the client.  The program helps clients build the tools to improve their intrapersonal (relationship with self) and interpersonal relationships (relationships with other people).

 PROGRAM CURRICULUM:

Using a systemic perspective, we examine the systems that have shaped the clients’ experiences, beliefs, and attitudes. One’s systems are shaped by their communal experiences, personal narratives, and social location. We cover the topic of trauma to understand how a client’s past may have contributed to their violent and maladaptive behaviors.

 ADDITIONAL RESOURCES:

The program also includes working on anger management through a skills-based training program.

PROGRAM GOALS:

The goal of the anger management training is to teach clients how to interact with the world in a healthy, productive, and fulfilling way.
